Good morning Gresham and surrounding areas! Dr. Seth Monson here from Main Street Dental in Gresham, OR, your local dentist office for over 60 years! Recently, the ADA published an article reviewing the training programs and prescriber education guidelines for prescribing narcotics for dental pain. The FDA and ADA are apparently teaming up to expand its joint efforts to include advocacy to coach prescribers regarding the epidemic of addiction of prescribed narcotics. Check out the article at ADA News (7/18, Garvin) and also the intersting FDA education blueprint at “FDA Education Blueprint for Health Care Providers Involved in the Management or Support of Patients with Pain.”
Basically the article goes on to state that there are alternative approaches to pain maangements including cognitive therapy, complimentary therapies including acupuncture and chiropractic modalities, and also physical rehabilitation avenues. At Main Street Dental, all of these modalities are much more approved of rather than throwing pills to temporarily fix a problem.
